Welcome!

Hi everyone! My name is Gabrielle Kiger, Gabby for short (insert "is that because you talk a lot?" joke here). I am a proud native of the Sunshine State as I was born in Orlando, FL and later moved to Vero Beach, FL. After high school graduation, I ventured north to attend Seton Hall University with a major in journalism and a minor in broadcasting. Time and time again I was met with the question, "why on earth would you ever leave Florida to come up and freeze here?" My answer was simple: New York City. Not only was the size, atmosphere and location of Seton Hall a perfect fit for me, but it also brought me one step closer to working in the heart of the media industry. While an undergraduate, my thirty-minute train ride from South Orange, NJ to Manhattan evolved from fun weekend leisure to the hasty commute for academic internships. These provided me with irreplaceable, hands-on opportunities and furthered my drive to become a successful journalist.

Another facet of The Hall that drew me in was the student media. The award-winning campus newspaper and nationally ranked college radio station put at my fingertips the tools necessary to transform my passion into a skill set worthy of carrying on to a professional career. I was thrilled to be selected as the first female Sports Editor of The Setonian in the school's history. My collaboration with the rest of the editorial board enabled our product to win the New Jersey Press Foundation's Sweepstakes Award, which established it as the best campus newspaper in the state. WSOU 89.5 FM, listed in the top 10 college radio stations in the nation, allowed me to break past my initial comfort zone and broadcast live men's and women's Division I basketball games (in the Big East, no less). When I joined as a junior, I began doing color commentary and sideline reporting all the while swearing I would never do play-by-play. Sure enough, the next year I was on the schedule for five games to do just that. Once I had prepared extensively and fought back my nerves, I developed on-air confidence and poise in what became some of my proudest memories of college.

After spending my post-graduation summer freelancing at ABC News in New York, I am now working as an Assistant Integration Producer at ESPN in Bristol, CT. To be as succinct as possible, it’s awesome. One of my co-workers told me during my first week something that really stuck and has so far proven to be quite accurate: “You can have a good day, or you can have a bad day. But at the end of the day, you’re getting paid to watch sports.” Couldn’t be happier to be at the Worldwide Leader!
